Camp Song

You can listen to the camp song in 2 different ways:

1. As sung by "The Kids Who Come From Stratton Lake",
recorded on Saturday August 28, 2021 (at camp!)
2. Instrumental mash-up of "The Washington and Lee Swing"
and the Stanford Fight Song, "Come Join the Band"

To the melody of "The Washington and Lee Swing"
and the Stanford Fight Song, "Come Join the Band"

We are the kids that come from Stratton Lake,
And for a bunch of boys make no mistake.
We've got the vim, the go and all the pep,
And we're the ones that will give Waupaca it's rep.

We're gonna fight, fight, fight for victory,
And put our names right down in history.
For we are glad that we are campers all, short and tall,
WAUPACA!

On down the fields (cha cha cha),
For it is Waupaca again.
Over them all, we'll raise our banner overhead.

Waupaca forever, we shall conquer all.
With might and main we'll win this game,
Forever and forever - WAUPACA!

Grace

(Morning / Noontime / Evening) has come, the board is spread.
Thanks be to him, who gives us bread.
Praise God for bread.....
For these and all thy blessings, Oh Lord we thank thee.

Thank you to Miles Beitler (1963-1964) for sending these song reminders from the 1960s:

(1) John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt -- Wally Tomchek used to lead this one. John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt, that's my name too, whenever I go out, the people always shout, JOHN JACOB JINGLEHEIMER SCHMIDT! la la la la la la la...repeat verse.

(2) Great Big Globs of Greasy Grimy Gopher Guts (describing the mess hall food)

(3) This Land is Your Land -- folk song

(4) Today is Monday (Tuesday, Wednesday, etc. -- all you hungry campers) It went like this: Today is Monday, Today is Monday, Monday wash day, all you hungry campers, we want you to know; Today is Tuesday, Today is Tuesday, Tuesday roast beef, Monday wash day, all you hungry campers, we want you to know...and so on through all the days of the week, repeating the previous days each time.

(5) 'Round the Campfire (to the tune of 'Til We Meet Again) -- these are the lyrics to the best of my memory: Round the campfire, 'neath the stars so bright
We have met in comradeship tonight
Round about the whispering trees
Guard our precious memories
And so before we close our eyes to sleep
Let us pledge each other that we'll keep
Waupaca friendships strong and deep
'Til we meet again.

(6) There was also a camper participation song done by Herb Beller and Barry Shanoff for the whole camp at the horseshoe. First they chose three campers to represent a locomotive, tender, and tanker. Then Herb and Barry sang the song about the train -- the tanker carrying oil; the tender carrying coal; and the locomotive carrying water -- as the three campers formed a "train" and circled around the inside of the horseshoe. After each verse, Herb and Barry would pause while the campers would shout "Oil!", "Coal!", or "Water!" when they got to that part of the train. After about three verses, the "train" was told to stop for refueling and each camper was again asked what he needed. The camper shouting "Oil!" was handed a can of motor oil. Then the camper shouting "Coal!" was handed a lump of coal. Finally, the last camper was asked what he needed and when he shouted "Water!", they threw a bucket of water on him! (Webmaster's Note: in later years, this was a staple of the "Big Stick, Little Stick, Little Twig" program)
