Waupaca County Post Articles

I would bet that most of you who were at camp in the 1950s and 1960s remember seeing an article from the Waupaca County Post (WCP) pasted to a wall in the rec hall. By the 1970s and 1980s, it was fading quite a bit but still readable. There is video from the 1996 reunion where Rob Gerowitz goes into the rec hall on film to show the remnants of that article.

Paul Warshauer and Mike Lurie trekked to the offices of the WCP some time in the early 2000s in search of that article. The staff were very helpful, and brought us book after book of original print from 1951. We scoured over those books, but we couldn't find it. We realized there was a gap in the dates of the books - one book was missing! We pleaded with them to find that book. One fellow said "I know where it is!" He came back a few minutes later with the missing book, hidden in an attic for who knows how long! We gently turned the pages one by one until BAM! There it was!! You cannot imagine the adrenaline rush when we saw the actual article that was pasted in the rec hall some 50 some odd years earlier! A very good quality copy was made for us, and we are pleased to have it on our website!

We continue to locate articles about camp that were published in the WCP. Every summer we stop by the Waupaca Historical Society, where all the WCP master books are housed, to look for these treasures of Camp Waupaca history. As recently as 2025, Mike Lurie found an article from 1952 about the construction of the new beach!! On this page, you will find a cross reference of all WPC articles that are individually found in their respective year pages. Enjoy this walk down memory lane!! We hope you find it as exciting as we did when we found them!
