Miscellaneous Stuff

(updated October 7, 2024)

Thanks for stopping on this page.  Here you will find all sorts of miscellaneous "stuff" that doesn't really fit anywhere else.  We also include some things that you WILL find elsewhere, but won't have to hunt for it.  If you have anything that you think fits into the "miscellaneous" category, send it our way!  In the meantime, have fun here.

 1) Marc Ringel and Jeff Denenberg - Camp friendships are often special, and can last a long time. In this case, over 60 years AND an organ donation! CLICK HERE to read about the very special friendship between Marc Ringel and Jeff Denenberg
 2) Dead Goat in Waupaca - What people in Waupaca won't do for their beer! Our thanks to Paul Ringel who saw this note in the Chicago Sun-Times on November 22, 2007. CLICK HERE to read the article.
 3) Obituaries - We have created a page dedicated to the memories of those who have left us .  CLICK HERE to visit our obituary page.
 4) Camp Map - circa 1966, author unknown. CLICK HERE to see the map.
 5) The Ramblers - Did you know that Camp Waupaca was home to its' own musical group?  That's right, in 1962 THE RAMBLERS had a gig at the old Windmill Restaurant & Bar in Waupaca!  None other than Herb Beller, Barry Shanoff, and Al Steigerwald performed to a full house.  Local radio advertisement provided much excitement for campers lucky enough to have a radio tuned into radio station WDUX.  Click on the link to see more information.  Hey, maybe if we cajole these 3 fine Camp Waupaca alumni they will perform THIS summer at the CLEARWATER HARBOR.
 6) The Dave Weiner award, explained - This became the Camper of the Year award in later years. After David Wax passed away in 2011, remembering that he was a Camper of the Year award recipient, we sought out the history of this award and we learned a lot! CLICK HERE to learn more about this award and to see David Wax's award as documented in the 1975 Trail's End yearbook. Be sure to click the link on the next page to read the history of this award!
 7) Rec Hall - The original Rec Hall was replaced between the 2003 and 2004 camping seasons. Paul Warshauer and Mike Lurie visited camp in 2003 and took several photos of the building for posterity. They also chiseled out some of the bricks from the fireplace for safe keeping (from what, we're not sure! If you want a brick, let us know, we have them!). CLICK HERE to view the last pictures of the original Rec Hall!
 8) Golf Course - The first thing you see when driving into Camp Waupaca is the golf course. This is a 4-hole, par-9 international course, which had at one time been on the golf tour! Well, not really. Here is a map of the golf course, and a list of golf insructors over the years. CLICK HERE to see!
 9) Lake Stratton - You may have heard us or someone else refer to the attributes of Straton Lake, like "crystal clear" or "glacial formed". Well, the CWRG Council actually had memorialized this official designation at a Council meeting on July 28, 2012. CLICK HERE to see!
10) Dogs at Camp - There were always dogs at camp. Here is a list based on feedback requested ln Facebook. If you have any other entries, please share the story with us and we will gladly update this page! CLICK HERE to read about the 4-legged furry campers of camp!
